My Favorite Past Haunts

Some of My Favorite Haunts
Before I began my blog, I had already visited a fair amount of haunted places, stayed at a good number of haunted hotels, and taken a pretty large number of ghost tours. I believe in giving credit where credit is due, so here I present you with the links to these tours and venues. Some of these are also featured in my blog as I re-visit them.

Ghost Tours

Albuquerque was one of my first ghost tours.  It was a small intimate group, and the downtown is small, quiet, and spooky.  Among my favorite ghost tours for sure-

Hidden Marietta- Great tour in a sleepy town on the Ohio River Named after Marie Antoinette-

Haunted Heartland Tours. Tours mostly in West Virginia and Ohio, but also a handful across the pond.  Sherri is fantastic guide-

Very comprehensive and thorough; I got dizzy and felt a little uneasy at times in the Big Easy on this tour-

I’ve done more than one tour in NoLa-

Sisters Grimm Tours in San Antonio-

Really good tour in Williamsburg.  My battery on my phone died at the Peyton-Randolph House. There is a strong energy there.  Visitors often get dizzy, light-headed, and feel faint when they visit that particular venue-

This tour was very recent for me in Key West, on the Trolley of Doom.  If you see one of the busses driving by, yell to them “You are doomed!” (No, really, try it- see what they reply)-

Full disclosure: I was once a tour guide in Raleigh.  But I am proud of this company and I believe that Brad, the director and all of his guides deserve a shout-out-

In Hot Springs, Arkansas you feel like you’ve stepped back into a different era.  Practically had a private tour here, because it was a quiet week night.  Very creepy ambiance-

New York City- there is so much history here, there are bound to be some ghosts lingering through its dark alleys.  I lived in NYC for many years before I moved to NC and then back to Ohio (cue the Pretenders).  New York will always hold a special place in my heart, and I often dream of coming back to the demons I left behind. A few years back I took this tour (the lower Manhattan tour)-

Annapolis is a very cool city to visit and the ghost tour was fun too.  This particular one was a pub crawl, so there were plenty of spirits of more than one type-

Providence Ghost Tours.  This has been awhile ago, but still a very strong energy.  Phone battery drained and general feeling of malaise-

Interesting ghost tour in Hawaii-

Haunted Hotels

I have stayed at a fair number of haunted hotels.  I try to seek them out. Although I don’t get a choice when my company is footing the bill and making the hotel arrangements, I do choose where to go on personal trips.

Savannah is Spoooooky….. I usually don’t scare too easily, but I couldn’t sleep all night at the Planters Inn in Savannah.  We (guy I was dating at the time and I) specifically requested the room that is allegedly haunted by a little girl. Something was very off here. The Marshall House has a reputation for some strange things happening, as well.  I stayed here too, but didn’t feel nearly as uneasy as I did at the Planters Inn.

Creepy old hotel in the heart of town, brimming with stories and spirits…..what could go wrong?

Beautiful old hotel in Charleston.  What a lovely place.  But I’m sure beyond the aesthetic beauty and sophisticated ambiance, there were some skeletons lurking in my closet there.

There two I had visited this summer, so they are not really “past” haunts, as in places I visited before I began this blog, but I wanted to note them here. I had been wanting to visit both for a long time.

Other Haunted and Macabre Locations

Very fortunate to live near the Ohio State Reformatory.  What a beautiful structure and a wonderful place to visit.  So many tortured souls remain there-

This former TB hospital-turned rehab facility-turned asylum-turned nursing home is also in my backyard practically. A beautiful hospital designed with outdoor space, as a common cure for TB is fresh air. Now the building sits abandoned with overgrown ivy taking over the exterior. Molly Stark is the photo on the cover of my blog. Although Molly Stark does not have an official website, here is an article the Canton Repository did on the hospital-

The venue is phenomenal.  The movie was terrible-

Restaurants in NYC-

New Orleans restaurant. The ghost sold his home for gambling money.  His wife was furious.  He still lingers in his former home.  The staff of the restaurant even sets a table for him every night-

Interesting old structure in Charleston.  Check out the tours of the basement, where the most activity occurred (and is still occurring)-

State Capital building in NC is the most haunted site in Raleigh-

I felt right at home here.  I especially love the resident black kitties who live here-

Another great venue if you love kitties, especially the unique polydactyl kitties. Surprisingly, the 60some kitties haven’t scared off a few resident ghosts-

Fascinating place….and if you have never been to Salem, go there immediately.  Do not pass go, do not collect $200 dollars-

Not really “haunted” (debatable I suppose), but this is my favorite thing about Disney-

I was in Birmingham for a conference and one of the events was held at Sloss Furnaces. I had no idea that there is so much activity reported here-
